Ron Thornton one of the founding fathers of CGI animation for television and an Emmy-winning visual effects artist died into a coma today. Ron Thornton has been ill for some time and friends started a project to help him and his wife Lada Butina for paying the huge medical bills. At a time when spectacular computer generated worlds were reserved for big budget cinematic extravaganzas, Ron Thornton brought the power of CGI to television. He learned his trade in the pre-computer age, and delighted us with amazing imagery in classic episodes of Doctor Who and Blake’s 7. Ron Thornton virtually kickstarted Lightwave in television production!
