Qualcomm is on track to acquire fellow Dutch chip maker NXP Semiconductors by the end of 2017. It’s a game changing deal that adds both scale and brand new markets to Qualcomm’s portfolio.  The mid range A1222 is based on a NXP Freescale QorIQ P1022 32-bit e500v2 dual-core PowerPC processor. If every NXP shareholder takes Qualcomm up on this offer, the deal would close very quickly. However, Qualcomm would need to come up with at least $27 billion of liquid cash, which would be tricky because the company only has about $6 billion of cash equivalents on hand right now.
