Joakim Nordstrom just announced that he is still working on JAmiga. He has been working on OpenJDK 8 using IcedTea.  IcedTea aims to make it easier for users to build and deploy OpenJDK, especially when using Free tools, along with additional features such as the ability to build against system libraries and support for alternative virtual machines and architectures beyond those supported by OpenJDK. IcedTea is the variant of OpenJDK currently distributed with GNU/Linux distributions such as Fedora, Gentoo and Debian.
