Nintendo announced via press release that the retro micro-console will return to store shelves in 2018. The SNES Classic will ship through 2018, reversing Nintendo’s original plan to similarly discontinue the product at the end of the calendar year. In their press release, Nintendo promises that more SNES Classic units will ship on launch day than there were for the NES Classic during its lifespan. Nintendo says, “Fans have shown their unbridled enthusiasm for these Classic Edition systems, so Nintendo is working to put many more of them on store shelves.” Nintendo did not provide any date specifics for the NES Classic’s return, other than “next summer.” In the meanwhile, prepare yourself mentally and physically in what could be a tumultuous battle for the SNES Classic when it releases on Sept. 29.
