Atari Drops a retro bomb: Pac-Man Edition 2600+ is coming

To celebrate the 45th anniversary of one of gaming’s most beloved icons—Pac-Man—Atari and Plaion are releasing a special edition of the Atari 2600+, launching on October 31st, 2025. This commemorative Pac-Man Edition is priced at £128.09 and adds a bold visual twist to the recently relaunched Atari console, along with some enticing extras for retro gaming fans. This new model maintains the core functionality of the standard Atari 2600+, but comes dressed in a vibrant PAC-MAN yellow finish, complete with illuminated Pac-Man character icons across the front. It also includes a PAC-MAN Edition CX-40+ Wireless Joystick and a specially designed Double Feature cartridge for the Atari 7800. This 2-in-1 cartridge features two versions of the classic game: the original Pac-Man 2600, which marked Pac-Man’s debut in home gaming, and an all-new arcade-style remake, titled Pac-Man 7800.

First released in 1980 by Namco, Pac-Man quickly became a cultural phenomenon, redefining what a video game could be. It helped usher in the golden age of arcade games, with its simple but addictive gameplay and instantly recognizable characters. The game’s legacy only grew when it made its way into living rooms via the Atari 2600, one of the first widely successful home consoles, which played a huge role in bringing video games to the mainstream. The Atari 2600+, which debuted in 2023 as a modern reimagining of the original console, is designed for both nostalgia and practicality. It supports original 2600 and 7800 cartridges, features HDMI output, and offers both backward and forward compatibility. This means players can enjoy classics in crisp, modern formats while still connecting to the history of gaming. In addition to the Pac-Man joystick, Atari is also launching four themed wireless controllers, each inspired by one of Pac-Man’s iconic ghost enemies—adding a playful touch for collectors and fans. Pre-orders for the Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition open on July 23rd, 2025. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the yellow pellet-muncher or new to Atari’s retro magic, this special release is a celebration of gaming’s most enduring legacies.
