Doom Returns to SNES in an enhanced new release from Limited Run Games

Thirty years after its original release on the Super Nintendo, Doom is making a surprising return—this time with a fully enhanced port from Limited Run Games. Originally launched on the SNES back in 1995, the classic first-person shooter was a technical marvel for its time. In recent years, fans even saw an unofficial port of Doom II brought to the system. Now, Limited Run is offering what it calls “The Definitive Doom SNES Experience,” bringing the original game back in style with modern updates. This new version includes all four episodes of the original game, including Thy Flesh Consumed, and comes packed with improvements designed to elevate the SNES experience. Players can look forward to smoother performance, added circle-strafing, monster respawning on Nightmare difficulty, level codes, and even rumble support—made possible with a brand-new SNES-compatible controller, also available for pre-order. Limited Run’s Doom for SNES will be available in two editions. The Standard Edition features a gun-metal colored cartridge, a retro-style box, an instruction booklet, and a 12″ x 16″ poster. For collectors, the Collector’s Edition ups the ante with a blood-splattered version of the cartridge, metal plate labels, a premium embossed foil box, the same booklet and poster, and is strictly limited to just 666 units. Pre-orders for both editions will go live on the Limited Run Games website starting July 11, 2025, and will remain open until August 10, 2025.
