Palmer Luckey, the tech maverick best known of Anduril Industries, is once again turning heads in the retro gaming world. After the successful debut of the ModRetro Chromatic—a sleek, modern tribute to the iconic Nintendo Game Boy—Palmer Luckey is now setting his sights on a far more ambitious target: the Nintendo 64. The Nintendo 64, released in 1996, marked a pivotal moment in gaming history. It was Nintendo’s leap into the third dimension, introducing revolutionary titles like Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, GoldenEye 007, and Banjo-Kazooie. Despite competition from the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn, the N64 carved its own legacy with a distinctive controller, cartridge-based media, and a game library that still defines the platforming and action-adventure genres today. With both ModRetro and Analogue trying to be the first to truly resurrect the N64 in modern form, retro enthusiasts are watching closely. While Analogue has built a reputation for ultra-premium recreations of Nintendo and Sega consoles, ModRetro could be the suprise.
