Shinobi: Art of Vengeance: Free demo now live across all platforms

Today, SEGA has announced the release of a free playable demo for their highly anticipated 2D action platformer, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. The game can be downloaded on all mainstream consoles and Steam. This demo offers players a first look at the game’s opening stage, Oboro Village, where they can engage in fast-paced combat and navigate intricate platforming challenges through richly detailed hand-drawn environments. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is crafted by the same team behind Streets of Rage 4, bringing a visually stunning, hand-drawn art style and a dynamic soundtrack blending electronic trip-hop with traditional Japanese instruments. The full game, launching on August 29, 2025, follows Joe Musashi on a quest for revenge across diverse stages and environments, featuring larger-than-life bosses and a deep combat system that rewards precision, speed, and mastery. The gameplay balances old-school arcade intensity with modern mechanics such as combos, air dashes, wall jumps, and elemental spells called Ninpo, creating a satisfying blend of challenge and accessibility. An Arcade Mode in the demo challenges players to attain high scores and uncover hidden paths, adding replay value. The Shinobi series is a long-running franchise of ninja-themed action games starring Joe Musashi and others, spanning from the original 1987 arcade title through multiple sequels, ports, and remakes on various platforms. The Amiga version of Shinobi, released in 1989, receives mixed reviews among retro gaming enthusiasts. While it’s a faithful adaptation of the arcade classic in its structure and gameplay, many reviewers agree that it fails to fully leverage the capabilities of the powerfull Amiga hardware in the 80s.
