A full portal 2 experience inside Minecraft: includes 50 levels plus a level editor

The game features 50 levels across eight map packs

It seems unlikely that Valve, the original creators of the Portal series, will release a new Portal game anytime soon. But surprisingly, you can now create your own Portal 3 in an unexpected place: Minecraft! On August 22, a team of more than 20 modders and fan developers released Portal: Java Edition—a free remake of Valve’s popular 2011 puzzle game, built entirely within “vanilla” Minecraft using resource and data packs. Technically, this means it’s not a “mod,” though they do recommend installing some additional third-party mods for better performance. This project pushes Minecraft’s Java Edition to its limits but still runs smoothly on decent PCs even without these extra mods. Development began in 2020 and took about five years to complete. The mod faithfully recreates all the core Portal 2 mechanics, including portals, lasers, light bridges, and mobility gels. The game features 50 levels across eight map packs. And if you manage to finish all of them, don’t worry—you can create your own levels using the included level editor. The editor is as intuitive as building in Minecraft itself, but with some big red buttons and the iconic companion cubes. If you want to try it out, you will need Minecraft: Java Edition for PC and can download the project files from GitHub. There is also a trailer available on YouTube to check out in advance.
