Final Fantasy IX 25 years: special exhibition in Tokyo and fans hope for a remake

Whether a remake will be announced remains uncertain

Square Enix is organizing a special exhibition in Tokyo to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy IX. This event will be held from November 22 to December 7, 2025, at Yurakucho Marui in Tokyo, serving as a nostalgic tribute to the beloved game. The announcement comes amid growing rumors of a potential remake of Final Fantasy IX. While Square Enix has not officially confirmed the remake, recent promotional images featuring updated character designs and artwork of protagonist Zidane have fueled fan hopes and speculation. Some reports suggest that if a remake is made, it would keep the original turn-based combat system and might be similar in scope to Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. Additionally, a Final Fantasy IX Picture Book—which was previously only available in Japan—will be released in the West in May 2026 and explores the story of Vivi and his grandfather. At this time, the exhibition mainly centers on celebrating nostalgia and paying tribute to the game’s legacy. Whether a remake will be announced remains uncertain, but the interest among fans is strong.
