Nintendo discontinues official repairs for 3DS and 2DS handhelds

With nearly 76 million units sold, it is the thirteenth best-selling console of all time

Nintendo officially ended repair services for all 3DS and 2DS models, as of September 4, 2025. The reason for this is a shortage of spare parts, making it impossible for the company to continue maintenance or repairs on these consoles. This marks a definitive end to the support of a legendary handheld that has lasted nearly 15 years. The Nintendo 3DS was launched in 2011 and introduced innovative 3D technology without the need for special glasses at the time. The lineup evolved with models such as the New Nintendo 3DS and the 2DS, both of which enjoyed great popularity. Despite the arrival of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo continued to offer repairs for the 3DS family until now, but the company has stated this is no longer feasible. Users who still own a 3DS or 2DS device can no longer have their consoles officially repaired and must now seek alternative solutions such as third-party repairs. This decision marks the end of an era and emphasizes Nintendo’s focus on new hardware.
