PUBG moves on: PS4 & Xbox One servers shut down this fall

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) was first released in March 2017

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) will stop supporting PlayStation 4 and Xbox One starting November 13, 2025. From that date, the game will only be playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This step is necessary to optimize PUBG for current-generation consoles and to allow future updates to run more smoothly and stably. The developer aims to provide a more stable gaming experience with improved graphics and more stable frame rates, as well as reducing crashes related to memory optimizations. All existing player accounts and purchased items will remain safe. Players can log into any current-generation console using their existing account without needing a separate transfer. Although this is a difficult step, the developer asks for understanding from players who have played for years on the previous-generation consoles. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) was first released in March 2017 as early access for Windows via Steam, with an official full release in December 2017. Developed by PUBG Studios (part of Krafton), the game was inspired by the Japanese film Battle Royale. Within its first year, PUBG sold over 30 million copies and generated over $700 million in revenue. It was the best-selling game on PC and Xbox One and one of the most profitable video games ever. In January 2022, PUBG switched to a free-to-play model on all platforms to attract new players and extend the game’s lifespan. Despite growing competition, PUBG remains active with regular updates, esports events, and technical improvements.
