Amiga won’t die: AmigaOS 3.3 2026 release brings fresh life to classics

Hyperion Entertainment has announced significant progress on AmigaOS 3.3, the next major update for classic Amiga systems, with a targeted release in 2026. Lead developer Camilla Boemann shared these updates at the Amiga40 event in Germany, emphasizing enhancements that modernize the platform while preserving its legacy appeal. AmigaOS 3.3 introduces a redesigned AmigaGuide with headlines and better link handling for easier navigation. PartitionEdit serves as a new, reliable hard drive partitioning utility, replacing outdated tools with a cleaner interface. Additional upgrades include the Moonlight icon set, smoother menu interactions, and an improved AmigaShell for enhanced performance and usability. Many features are now complete and undergoing testing, indicating the project is in its final stages. This follows successful releases like AmigaOS 3.2 in 2021, which added over 100 features such as ReAction GUI integration and improved data types. Recent updates to 3.2, including Update 3 in 2025, have refined components like TextEditor and DiskDoctor, building momentum for 3.3.
