In a delightful Christmas surprise for retro computing fans, AmiStreamRaider emerged on December 25, 2025, enabling classic 68k Amiga systems to tap into the vibrant world of Twitch streams. This ingenious software package splits into two seamless components: a robust x64 server running in a Docker container and a lightweight client optimized for AmigaOS 3.2. Users can now enjoy live streams, log into personal Twitch accounts, scour channels and games, and pull up favorite lists—all from the nostalgic glow of their Amiga screens. What sets this apart is its thoughtful transcoding, offering profiles from ultra-low-res 180×100 for basic setups to smooth 720p for enhanced viewing, ensuring compatibility without sacrificing the platform’s retro essence. The Amiga client sets a clear bar: a 68040 processor paired with AGA graphics forms the baseline, but enthusiasts with 68060 chips, Vampire accelerators, PiStorm emulators, or dedicated graphics cards will revel in superior performance. On the software front, AmigaOS 3.2 anchors the system, bolstered by MUI 3.8 for interfaces, RxMUI ARexx for scripting, and a TCP/IP stack such as Roadshow, Miami, or Genesis. Nettools like curl and nc handle networking, while mpega.library and the included RiVA MPEG video player deliver playback magic. A 16/24-bit RTG Workbench screen proves essential for windowed viewing, and of course, a stable internet connection ties it all together. Shifting to the server, requirements remain modest: any x64 CPU with 2 GB RAM suffices, running on Windows, Linux, or macOS. Docker Engine and Docker Compose make deployment a breeze, spinning up the transcoding magic that feeds streams to your Amiga.
