Ridge Racer, once the ultimate console launch title that defined arcade racing, has been dormant since Bandai Namco’s 2012 release of Ridge Racer Unbounded. Fans craving an HD remaster of the iconic PS1 port have waited in vain for official word, despite vague publisher promises about licensing. Enter DG1Games, a solo creator who has meticulously rebuilt the game from scratch in Sony’s Dreams game creation platform for PS4 and PS5. Dubbed Ridge Racer Advanced, this project faithfully recreates the 32-bit PS1 killer app while adding modern flair. Players can toggle graphics styles on the fly: crisp high-resolution defaults, nostalgic pixelated PS1 aesthetics, or glossy contemporary visuals with enhanced shine. “Everything is entirely built from scratch in Dreams,” the developer notes, promising an expansion beyond the original. DG1Games plans a “very soon” public drop within Dreams, making it accessible to anyone with a PS4 or PS5. Early footage impresses with its authenticity, though drifting mechanics draw some criticism for feeling off. In an era of sparse Ridge Racer support from Bandai Namco, projects like this highlight fan passion driving preservation and innovation. While not an official HD remaster, Ridge Racer HD offers a free, playable taste of what could have been – perfect for reliving ’90s arcade glory on modern hardware.
