AmiCube has unveiled the PiStorm68K, a special edition accelerator board designed for the MiniMig, transforming the FPGA-based Amiga recreation into a high-performance powerhouse. The PiStorm68K replaces the MiniMig’s standard 68000 CPU socket, supporting both a genuine 68000 processor for authentic operation and various Raspberry Pi models for 68000 emulation. Users can switch between original hardware sluggishness at 4.47 MIPS or emulated speed reaching 1531 MIPS, a dramatic leap provided by the Pi’s capabilities. This setup also introduces emulated features absent in the original, such as a floating-point unit (FPU) and memory management unit (MMU). Demonstrations using the SYSINFO utility highlight the emulator’s superiority, with the Raspberry Pi delivering over 300 times the instructions per second of a stock 68000. The board maintains MiniMig’s faithful Amiga chipset recreation while unlocking modern acceleration for demanding tasks. PiStorm68K proves retro isn’t stuck in the past; it’s evolving with clever hacks like this. Grab a MiniMig, add the board, and join the party—your next Amiga adventure awaits in 2026’s booming scene.
