Space Quest IV gets long-awaited Amiga OCS enhanced edition

Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers finally receives the Amiga port it deserves through a fan-made enhanced OCS version by Darasco of the SCP group. Released this week, this overhaul addresses the original 1991 Sierra port’s notorious flaws, like its washed-out palettes and choppy animations. Darasco’s reconstruction uses custom tools to rebuild graphics from the superior VGA PC assets, tailored for OCS hardware on stock Amiga 500/A1200 setups. Screenshots captured via real Amiga RGB output show vibrant, consistent palettes throughout the adventure, retaining the original Amiga MIDI music with Roland MT-32 support (tested via mt32-pi). The full release became available via the English Amiga Board (EAB), marking a complete playthrough-ready experience. Players guide janitor-turned-hero Roger Wilco through time-travel chaos, pursued by old foe Sludge Vohaul across post-apocalyptic Xenon, a mall galaxy, and futuristic lairs. Iconic moments include bunny-snatching escapes, Astro Chicken arcade battles, and infiltrating a supercomputer, all laced with the series’ signature humor like latex babes and fast-food jobs. The SCI engine’s point-and-click puzzles culminate in thwarting Vohaul’s clone army, blending 256-color art with motion-captured animations from the 1991 original.
