Retro gaming fans have something exciting to look forward to as Escape 2049 has officially been announced for the Game Boy Advance and Sega Mega Drive, with a PC release also planned. Developed by French indie studio OrionSoft, the game is a brand-new action-puzzle platformer built specifically with classic hardware in mind. Set in a dystopian cyberpunk future, Escape 2049 continues the story that began in Escape 2042. Players take control of Elena, a resistance fighter battling against a totalitarian regime. After years of oppression, imprisonment, and surveillance, Elena must break free and expose the truth, fighting her way through heavily guarded facilities and hostile environments. Gameplay blends fast-paced platforming with thoughtful puzzle elements. Players will shoot in multiple directions, use grenades to manipulate the environment, hack computers to disable security systems, and collect keycards to progress. The adventure spans four distinct worlds, each featuring multiple levels and challenging boss encounters, all wrapped in detailed pixel art designed to push classic systems to their limits. Escape 2049 is currently being funded via Kickstarter, with plans to offer both digital versions and physical cartridges complete with boxes and manuals—an appealing prospect for collectors and enthusiasts who enjoy playing on original hardware. With its mix of cyberpunk storytelling, modern design sensibilities, and authentic retro presentation, Escape 2049 is shaping up to be a standout new release for old-school platforms.
