PC Indie favorite Constance gets PS5, Xbox series, and Switch release this May

Indie platformers have a reputation for trying to stand out with “one clever mechanic,” but Constance looks determined to bring an entire art studio’s worth of ideas with it when it launches on consoles on May 1, 2026. After debuting on PC in late 2025, the hand-painted action platformer is making its way to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, giving console players a chance to literally dive into a world made of paint—hopefully without getting any on the carpet. At the heart of the game is its signature ability: Constance can transform herself into paint. Not metaphorically—actually paint. That means slipping through surfaces, launching brush-stroke attacks, and chaining together fluid movement abilities that make the gameplay feel somewhere between a traditional platformer and an artist aggressively working against a deadline. The catch is that using these powers too much causes corruption, so players have to balance stylish action with restraint. In other words, it’s the gaming equivalent of “just one more coffee” eventually becoming five.

The world itself reflects the game’s emotional core. Rather than simply hopping from level to level, players explore an evolving inner landscape tied to Constance’s personal struggles and memories. Different biomes introduce new enemies, puzzles, and bosses, gradually revealing more about the character and her story. It’s colorful, expressive, and occasionally intense—like opening an old sketchbook and realizing some of those drawings were surprisingly dramatic. Developed by bildundtonfabrik and co-published by ByteRockers’ Games and PARCO GAMES, Constance blends nonlinear exploration with fast-paced combat and hand-crafted visuals that look as though every frame was painted individually. For players who enjoy platformers that reward skillful movement while still telling a thoughtful story, this console release could be a welcome addition to the spring lineup. And if nothing else, it’s refreshing to see a hero whose greatest power isn’t swords, guns, or magic—but the ability to become a puddle of paint on command. Not exactly practical in real life, but it would certainly make cleaning day more interesting.
