Retro shooter Söldner-X 2 brings classic arcade action to Nintendo Switch

Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype Definitive Edition is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch on May 14, 2026, giving fans of classic arcade shooters another reason to get excited. Originally released for the PlayStation 3 in 2010, the game quickly built a loyal following thanks to its fast-paced gameplay, striking visuals, and intense action. Over the years it has appeared on several PlayStation platforms, and now Nintendo Switch players will finally get the chance to experience it as well. At its core, Söldner-X 2 stays true to the traditional side-scrolling shoot ’em up formula. Players pilot a futuristic spacecraft through enemy-filled stages, destroying waves of opponents while dodging projectiles and collecting upgrades along the way. Each stage ends with a challenging boss battle that tests both reflexes and strategy. Like many arcade-style shooters, success depends on learning enemy patterns, mastering weapons, and constantly improving your performance with each playthrough.

The Nintendo Switch version will arrive as the Definitive Edition, which includes all previously released content along with several enhancements. Players can expect ten action-packed stages, three playable ships with different abilities and playstyles, and improved visual effects for weapons and bosses. The game also features a dynamic difficulty system that adjusts depending on how well the player performs, helping keep the experience engaging for both newcomers and experienced players. Online leaderboards and replay sharing will allow players to compete for high scores, while a gallery mode and additional bonus content add extra value for fans. Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype Definitive Edition will be available digitally on the Nintendo eShop for around €14.99. It will also be included in the Söldner-X Complete Collection, a bundle that features both the sequel and the original Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer. For collectors, a physical edition of the collection is also planned and will include extra items such as a soundtrack, poster, and collector’s packaging.

Although the shoot ’em up genre is often associated with retro gaming, Söldner-X 2 blends classic arcade mechanics with modern visuals and polished gameplay. Its arrival on the Nintendo Switch highlights the continued demand for challenging, score-driven action games. When it launches this May, both longtime fans and newcomers will have another opportunity to dive into one of the genre’s most polished modern shooters.
