Battlefield Hardline servers closing on PlayStation and Xbox, PC support continues

Electronic Arts is preparing to phase out Battlefield Hardline on consoles more than a decade after the game first launched. The publisher has confirmed that the title will soon be removed from digital storefronts on PlayStation and Xbox, and its online services on those platforms will also be shut down. However, the PC version of the game will remain available and its online servers will continue to operate. Battlefield Hardline originally released in 2015 and stood out from other entries in the Battlefield franchise because of its unique theme. Instead of focusing on large-scale military warfare, the game centered on conflicts between police and criminals. Players could participate in intense urban shootouts, high-speed vehicle chases, and robbery-focused multiplayer modes. The single-player campaign was also presented in an episodic format inspired by crime television shows.

According to EA, the first step in the shutdown process will happen on May 22, 2026. On that date, Battlefield Hardline will be delisted from digital stores on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, meaning new players will no longer be able to purchase the game or its downloadable content through those platforms. A month later, on June 22, 2026, EA will shut down the online servers for the console versions of the game. Once this happens, multiplayer modes will no longer be accessible on those platforms. Players who already own the game on console will still be able to play the single-player campaign, but the online component—which has always been a core part of the Battlefield experience—will no longer be available.

The PC version of Battlefield Hardline will not be affected by these changes. The game will remain available for purchase on PC storefronts and its online multiplayer services will continue to function. EA has not announced any plans to shut down PC servers at this time. Although Battlefield Hardline received mixed reactions when it first released, it managed to build a dedicated community over the years thanks to its distinctive cops-and-robbers gameplay and fast-paced multiplayer modes such as Heist and Hotwire. Its departure from the traditional Battlefield formula made it one of the more experimental entries in the series. With the upcoming shutdown of console servers, longtime players on PlayStation and Xbox have only a limited time left to revisit the game’s multiplayer experience. Meanwhile, PC players will still be able to keep the game alive online for the foreseeable future.
