Every hardware project represents months of design, testing, frustration, investment and courage. These machines did not appear because the world demanded them. They appeared because a small group of people still believed the Amiga deserved a future. And yet, behind this beautiful hardware story, there is a more painful truth. The Amiga has machines. What it needs now is more life inside them…
The romance of new hardware
There is something deeply romantic about modern Amiga hardware. In a world where most computers look the same, boot the same, update the same and disappear into the same grey cloud, Amiga-compatible machines still feel personal. They are not anonymous slabs of mass-market convenience. They have names, histories, personalities and communities around them.
The Vampire computers brought new energy to classic Amiga users who wanted more power without losing the spirit of the original machines. The AmigaOne X5000 and A1222+ gave AmigaOS 4 users a PowerPC home. The Mirari PowerPC boards show again that ambition still exists in a scene many outsiders wrongly believe ended long ago.
These machines are not perfect, and nobody should expect them to be. They are born in a tiny market, far away from the endless budgets of Apple, Microsoft, Intel or AMD. But that is exactly what makes them special. They are not products of market inevitability. They are products of stubborn love. For Amiga fans, unboxing such hardware is not just a technical moment. It is emotional. It is a reminder that the platform still breathes. It is the feeling that the story did not end in the 1990s after all.

But hardware alone cannot sing
Still, a computer is not truly alive because it has a processor, memory and ports. A computer becomes alive when software gives it a voice. They allow new creators to enter the scene without needing to master every low-level detail. They keep the old machines playful.
But the Amiga needs more than a handful of charming games. It needs fresh software with ambition. It needs creative tools and polished entertainment. It needs software that makes a user say: I want to turn this machine on today, not only because I remember what it once was, but because I want to use what it now offers.
The newcomer’s heartbreak
Long-time Amiga users understand the platform’s limitations. They know the workarounds, the strange installation paths, the missing features and the small victories. They know which old program still works, which patch is needed, which forum post explains the fix, and which compromise must be accepted. For them, the Amiga is a familiar old friend with quirks.
For newcomers, the experience can be very different. A new user may arrive full of curiosity. They may have seen videos, read discussions, watched demos and become fascinated by the idea of an alternative computer culture. They may buy a Vampire-based system, an AmigaOne, an A1222+ or another compatible machine with genuine excitement. Then comes the difficult question: what now?
Classic games are there. Old software is there. Some new indie-style games are there. A selection of utilities is there. But after the first wave of discovery, the newcomer may feel the silence. That is where the romance can turn into disappointment. A beautiful machine without enough new software risks becoming a weekend curiosity. It may be admired, photographed and discussed, but not used every day. For a platform with such a passionate history, that is a dangerous place to be.

Software developers must become the new stars
For many years, hardware makers have been the heroes of the Amiga revival. They deserve that respect. Without them, much of the current excitement would not exist. But the next chapter needs a different kind of hero. It needs software developers.
The Amiga community should celebrate programmers, artists, musicians, testers, porters, interface designers and documentation writers with the same passion it gives to new boards. A new native application should be treated as a major event. A well-made game should be supported, etc…
Software work is often less glamorous than hardware. A motherboard can be photographed. A new case can be shown proudly on a desk. Software is quieter. It grows through late nights, bug reports, rewritten code and invisible decisions. But in the end, software decides whether a platform is used or only admired. A computer can be rare and beautiful, but if there is nothing fresh to run on it, the love slowly becomes passive.
Games still matter, but they must aim higher
Games have always been central to the Amiga story. They brought many users to the machine and kept its name alive long after the commercial era ended. New games created with RedPill, Scorpion Engine and other tools are a welcome sign of life. They show that people still want to create for the platform.
But the community should be careful not to accept too little from itself. New Amiga games should not only imitate old Amiga games. A new Amiga game can be retro without being lazy. It can be simple without being shallow. It can have classic pixel art, but still offer strong design, atmosphere, polish and replay value.

Heavy anti-AI sentiment is not really helping either
There is another uncomfortable subject the Amiga community will sooner or later have to face: the heavy anti-AI sentiment that is present. Of course, there are fair concerns. People are right to care about originality, copyright and artistic respect. Nobody wants the Amiga scene to become flooded with soulless machine-made shovelware, cheap graphics or empty projects with no human love behind them.
But rejecting every form of AI out of principle may also close a door the Amiga badly needs to keep open. AI could help push Amiga software forward, even if only for a while. For a tiny platform where most creators work alone, in their spare time, that kind of assistance can matter.
The Amiga does not have the luxury of endless development teams. It does not have thousands of full-time programmers waiting to build the next generation of applications. Many projects depend on one or two passionate people trying to do everything themselves: coding, graphics, sound, packaging, testing, promotion and support. In that reality, AI does not need to replace human creativity. It can become a tool that helps human creativity survive the workload.
The Amiga spirit was always about using technology creatively, bending limited resources into something personal and surprising. The real danger is not that AI helps someone finish an Amiga project. The real danger is that useful projects never get finished because the community rejects helpful tools before giving them a fair chance.
The Amiga scene should be critical, but not fearful. Welcome AI when it helps real developers make real software. If AI can help one programmer finally release a long-delayed utility, one artist create better or much faster assets, one hobbyist learn Amiga development faster or one team produce better and usable software, then it has value.
Software is now the Amiga’s most urgent weakness. In such a small market, every useful tool should be considered. AI will not save the Amiga on its own. It will not magically create a modern software ecosystem overnight. But it could give tired developers a helping hand, lower the barrier for newcomers and bring a little momentum back to a platform that desperately needs more new code, more finished projects and more reasons to turn the machines on.
AI is not going away. Whether people welcome it or dislike it, it is already becoming part of the wider technological landscape. Like every major transition in human history, it will create winners and losers, opportunities and anxieties, progress and disruption. In the end, if people truly love the Amiga as a living platform, then conservative thinking alone is not enough. Protecting the past is important, but protecting the past must not become a refusal to build the future. The Amiga ecosystem does not have unlimited time, money or manpower. That is exactly why it should not close the door on tools that could help it survive or revive.
PowerPC, classic and FPGA need a common spirit
One of the Amiga scene’s great strengths is also one of its great difficulties: diversity. There are classic 68k machines, accelerated systems, FPGA computers, PowerPC computers, AmigaOS 4, AmigaOS classic, MorphOS and AROS. Each has its own audience and technical reality.
This variety is fascinating, but it can make software development harder. A developer must decide which Amiga to target. A user must understand which programs run where. A project that works beautifully on one system may not reach another. The result is a market already small divided into even smaller islands.
The answer is not perse to erase those differences. The answer is to build better bridges. Shared libraries, clear target specifications, portability layers, cross-development tools and better documentation could make a real difference. The Amiga community cannot afford to waste talent by making every developer fight the same compatibility battles alone. If hardware diversity is the body of the modern Amiga world, software cooperation must become its bloodstream. And in the end, one of them has to step up and claim dominance, because this diversity is no matter what a weakness.

New Commodore hardware will need more than a famous name
Sooner or later, Commodore may also bring new Amiga-compatible hardware into the story. That would be exciting. The name still carries emotional weight. It can awaken memories in people who have not thought about the Amiga for years. It can attract attention beyond the usual community.
But a famous name cannot solve the software problem by itself. New hardware may open the door, but only software can invite people to stay. Without a richer software ecosystem, even the most attractive new machine risks becoming another object of admiration rather than a living platform. The Amiga does not need another dream that ends after the unboxing. It needs a reason for users to return, week after week, month after month.
The future must be written in code
The Amiga community has already achieved something remarkable. It has kept a beloved platform alive through passion, memory, engineering and patience. It has produced hardware that should not exist according to normal market logic. It has preserved a culture that many thought was gone forever. Now the same energy must turn towards software.
The Amiga needs new programs with heart. It needs games with personality, tools with purpose, utilities with polish and creative applications that remind people why this machine once felt like the future. It needs developers who are supported not only with applause, but with purchases, testing, feedback and respect.
The hardware has kept the candle burning. Now software must make the room warm again. The Amiga is not dead. It never truly was. But if it wants to be more than a beautiful memory, it must become useful, playful and creative again. The machines are ready. The boards are here. The passion is still alive. What the Amiga needs now is not another monument. It needs new songs to sing….
