Both games come from the late 1980s, both left a mark, and both now get a new hardware-level treatment for MiSTer FPGA and Analogue Pocket. Alongside them comes the first public step into Gaelco territory, with support for Thunder Hoop, Squash, Biomechanical Toy and Big Karnak through a new multi-game core. That mix matters. Double Dribble brings Konami basketball back to the court

This kind of work makes a real difference. When a core better reflects the original board, related games become easier to support. Cabal benefits from that. Instead of treating it as a completely separate job, the redesigned core gives it a stronger base. And Cabal deserves the attention.
Released in 1988, Cabal sits in a clever spot between older shooting galleries and later action shooters. You see your soldier from behind. You move left and right at the bottom of the screen. You aim into the battlefield, shoot enemies, dodge fire and blow chunks out of the scenery. It’s simple to understand, but it gets hectic fast.
The game’s viewpoint gave it a strong identity. It didn’t play like a side-scroller. It didn’t play like a first-person shooter either. It put the player in a fixed combat space and kept the pressure high. Enemies kept coming. Cover mattered. Movement mattered. Aim mattered. Gaelco was a Spanish arcade developer, and its games often looked and felt different from Japanese arcade releases of the same period. The art had a harder edge. The animation could be odd in a good way. The settings often leaned into bold colour, strange creatures and chunky comic-book action.
Big Karnak came out in 1991 and used an ancient Egyptian setting for side-scrolling action. Thunder Hoop brought bright platforming and arcade speed. Squash kept things tighter with a sports format built for quick play. Biomechanical Toy, released in 1995, went stranger, with run-and-gun action set inside a toy-like world full of weird enemies and busy animation.
