
Old computers and modern controllers don’t speak the same language. USB4AMI fixes that. A button on the adapter switches between Amiga, Commodore and Atari modes. The LED changes colour to show which mode is active, and the adapter remembers your choice after shutdown. You won’t need to select the platform every time.
Each mode changes the way USB input is translated. That’s essential because an Amiga mouse, a Commodore 1351 mouse and an Atari mouse don’t behave in exactly the same way. USB4AMI handles those differences inside the adapter.
Modern gamepads without awkward setup

That small change makes a real difference in platform games. Many older titles use up to jump, which can feel awkward on a modern pad. Mapping jump to a face button makes the controls feel far more natural without changing the game itself.

Full CD32 controller support on Amiga
On an Amiga, the adapter can recognise and map the complete seven-button CD32 layout. That gives compatible games access to the coloured face buttons, shoulder controls and pause function. Regular Amiga games still work with their usual one- or two-button control schemes. You don’t have to switch hardware when moving between standard Amiga titles and CD32 games.
Some dual analogue controllers can also duplicate selected CD32 buttons on the sticks. That won’t matter to everyone, but it gives you extra flexibility when a game’s original control layout doesn’t suit your preferred pad.
USB mouse support that feels familiar
The mouse support may be the adapter’s most useful feature. On Amiga and Atari systems, USB4AMI converts movement into the quadrature signals expected by the computer. Left and right mouse buttons work as you’d expect, so a basic USB mouse can replace an older model without additional software.
On the Commodore 64 and MEGA65, the adapter can emulate a Commodore 1351 proportional mouse. That allows smoother pointer movement in compatible software, including graphical environments such as GEOS.
You can also adjust mouse sensitivity directly from the mouse. Hold the middle button, then use the left and right buttons to change the movement scale. The adapter saves the setting separately for each platform. That’s handy. The speed that feels right on an Amiga may feel completely wrong on an Atari ST.
Small hardware with sensible protection
The adapter’s compact size helps when ports sit in awkward places. It can fit beneath an Atari ST and around the closely packed connections on machines such as the Amiga 600. Power comes directly from the computer, so you don’t need another cable or wall adapter. A built-in 200 mA polyfuse limits the amount of current available to the connected USB device.
That protection is useful, but it also means you should be careful with rechargeable controllers. Some pads start charging as soon as they’re connected, and that can place unnecessary demand on the computer’s port. A low-power wired controller or ordinary USB mouse is the safer option.
Firmware updates without specialist tools
Firmware updates use a drag-and-drop process. You connect USB4AMI to a modern computer with a male USB-A-to-USB-A cable while holding the boot button. The adapter appears as a temporary drive, and you copy the new firmware file onto it. That’s it. Computers with USB-C-only ports will need a suitable adapter, but the update itself doesn’t require a programmer, command-line tool or custom application.
