Dusklight 2.0 has arrived, bringing a substantial update to the fan-made PC port of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Released on 18 September 2026, the latest version introduces a new modding system, a built-in randomizer, improved performance and expanded compatibility with GameCube and Wii game discs. There’s plenty to get through, particularly for players interested in running the game on modern hardware with more control over its settings and gameplay. The update covers Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS and Android, with several changes affecting how the game runs across different devices. There’s support for surround sound, smoother menus and a revised interpolation system, alongside new options for installing and managing mods.
Dusklight 2.0 introduces a new modding system
Modding receives one of the biggest changes in this release. Dusklight 2.0 introduces a new API with support for native C++ mods and Luau-based modifications, giving developers different ways to change how the game works.
C++ mods can use hooks to make more extensive changes to the game, whereas Luau provides an option for less complex modifications. There’s support for replacing game assets without writing custom code, too.
Players don’t need to manage everything manually. Dusklight now includes an integrated mod browser, where users can discover, download and update compatible modifications directly within the game. Mods remain available through a separate online catalogue for anyone who prefers to handle installations independently.
There are some restrictions on iOS. Native mods must be bundled with the application during installation, and the integrated browser currently displays mods without native code. A separate installation method using bundled IPA files is in development, but there’s no confirmed release date.
Built-in randomizer brings new gameplay options
Dusklight Randomizer now comes included with the main application, giving players access to randomised gameplay without installing a separate tool.
The randomizer runs on the new modding API and includes an in-game interface for adjusting settings and managing generated seeds. Players can configure a randomised playthrough directly from Dusklight rather than switching between separate applications.
There’s a practical benefit to this setup. Randomizer updates can arrive independently of major Dusklight releases, so changes to its functionality don’t need to wait for another full application update. The mod manager provides notifications whenever a newer randomizer version becomes available.
Wii disc users should keep an eye on compatibility. The current release has some potential issues when running the randomizer with Wii game data, and further work is planned to address these limitations.
GameCube and Wii compatibility expands
Dusklight 2.0 extends its disc support to cover more retail editions of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Japanese GameCube discs are now supported, alongside Wii releases, bringing compatibility to almost every retail GameCube and Wii version of the game. The Korean Wii edition remains unsupported.
Players still need to provide a dump of their own original game disc to run Dusklight. There’s an important distinction for Wii users. The software can load Wii game data, but it doesn’t currently support the original Wii-specific functionality, including motion controls.
Instead, Wii versions run using the same gameplay and control setup as their GameCube counterparts. Further support for Wii-exclusive features remains a possibility for future releases, with no confirmed timetable for their introduction.
Performance improvements bring smoother gameplay and menus
Dusklight 2.0 isn’t limited to new features. The release includes changes to performance, animation and menu responsiveness across supported platforms. The interpolation system has been reworked, with coverage extended to parts of the game previously missing interpolation support. The changes concern how the software handles animation between frames, particularly when running the game at higher frame rates.
Menus receive their own update. The revised menu system now uses variable delta time, helping animations and interactions run more smoothly across different frame rates. It’s a technical change, but one affecting an area players regularly encounter during gameplay. The release includes further performance optimisations throughout the application, with the aim of delivering more consistent operation across supported hardware.
Surround sound support arrives with more fixes
Audio receives an update, too. Dusklight 2.0 introduces 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound support, adding multichannel output options for players using compatible speaker systems and audio equipment. The release includes further quality-of-life settings and bug fixes covering different parts of the application.
Dusklight 2.0 is available now across its supported desktop and mobile platforms, with its new modding system, integrated randomizer, broader disc compatibility and technical improvements included in the latest release. Work continues on the remaining Wii compatibility limitations and the planned native mod installation system for iOS, although release dates for these changes haven’t been announced.
