Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse gives players a head start with a free October demo

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is getting a free demo on 1 October 2026, giving players two weeks to try the upcoming action-platformer before its full release. Better still, progress made in the demo will carry over to the finished game, so there's no need to start from scratch when it launches on 15 October. Konami's latest Castlevania game is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Developed by Evil Empire, Belmont’s Curse returns to the series' familiar side-scrolling format, mixing fast combat, platforming and exploration with a new story set in 15th-century Paris. The October demo will cover the opening chapter, giving players their first chance to try the combat systems, explore the early environments and meet the game's new protagonist, Rose Belmont.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse demo arrives on 1 October

The free demo launches on 1 October, ahead of the complete game’s arrival on 15 October. It introduces Rose Belmont, the daughter of Trevor Belmont, and establishes the conflict driving the latest entry in Konami’s long-running action series.

Set in Paris in 1499, the story takes place 23 years after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Monstrous creatures have invaded the city, leaving Rose to confront a growing supernatural threat.

She carries the Vampire Killer whip, a familiar weapon for Castlevania players. This time, it serves two purposes. Rose can use it to attack enemies or swing across gaps and reach platforms during exploration.

The opening chapter introduces these mechanics through combat encounters and platforming sections, giving players an opportunity to get accustomed to Rose’s movement and abilities before the complete game arrives.

Demo progress carries over to the full game

Players won’t have to repeat the opening chapter after purchasing Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. Konami has confirmed save data transfer between the demo and the complete release, allowing players to continue their existing progress once the full game becomes available. There are a few conditions to keep in mind.

Players must use the same platform and account for both versions, retain their demo save data and install the latest update for the complete game before transferring progress. The demo covers the opening chapter rather than the entire campaign, with certain features and content restricted until release. For players planning to purchase Belmont’s Curse, the transfer feature means time spent exploring the introductory areas and completing early encounters won’t need to be repeated.

New combat abilities and familiar Castlevania enemies

Evil Empire is developing Belmont’s Curse with support from Motion Twin, bringing experience from Dead Cells and The Rogue Prince of Persia to Konami’s action-platforming series. Alongside the Vampire Killer whip, Rose can use an Arcana system featuring abilities acquired by defeating bosses. These abilities appear as tarot cards and provide access to spells and special actions.

The game features seven weapon categories and a selection of relics with offensive and defensive effects. Players can combine equipment discovered during exploration, opening up different approaches to combat throughout the campaign.

Several familiar Castlevania enemies are returning, including Death, Medusa and Carmilla. New bosses connected to the Paris setting will appear throughout the adventure. The demo should provide an early introduction to the core combat mechanics, though access to later abilities, equipment and encounters will require the complete game.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse release date and platforms

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse launches on 15 October 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The free demo arrives on 1 October across the same platforms, featuring the opening chapter and support for transferring saved progress to the complete release.

Players planning to continue their demo save will need to purchase the full game on the same platform and keep their existing save data. With the demo arriving two weeks before launch, October will provide the first opportunity to try Rose Belmont’s combat abilities and explore the opening areas of the new Castlevania adventure ahead of its complete release.
