Capcom has revealed more of Mega Man: Dual Override, introducing a transforming boss named Jet Man, a new special weapon and several changes to the series’ familiar action-platforming formula. The latest gameplay footage, shown during Tokyo Game Show 2026, features Jet Man switching between robot and aircraft forms during a fight with Proto Man. There’s plenty more to see, too, including the return of Astro Crush, a new custom chip system and fresh details about how the two playable characters handle combat. Mega Man: Dual Override is scheduled for release in spring 2027, marking the series’ 40th anniversary with a new entry featuring familiar mechanics and several changes to stage progression.

Jet Man takes the fight into the air

Jet Man is the second boss revealed for Mega Man: Dual Override, and his appearance brings an unusual twist to the familiar Robot Master encounters. The character leads an aerobatic flying squadron and can transform between a humanoid robot and a high-speed aircraft. During the latest gameplay demonstration, Jet Man fights Proto Man, switching forms to attack from different positions across the screen.

His role extends beyond the boss encounter. Jet Man commands a specialised flying unit, but his determination to demonstrate his combat abilities leads him to seize control of a large transport aircraft alongside his squadron.

His aircraft form plays a central role in combat, allowing him to cross the arena and attack from the air. Players will need to respond to his movements as he switches between ground-based and airborne attacks. Defeating him provides access to a new weapon.

Jet Stinger isn’t limited to combat

Jet Man’s special weapon, Jet Stinger, sends Mega Man charging forward at high speed, striking enemies and knocking them across the screen. The attack has a second use. Enemies hit by Jet Stinger can collide with nearby opponents, dealing further damage and creating opportunities to strike several targets in a single move. It’s useful outside combat, too.

Jet Stinger can propel players across gaps, offering another way to move through stages without relying entirely on conventional platforming. The ability gives the weapon a practical role in exploration, particularly in areas where standard jumps won’t cover the distance. Players can use Jet Stinger for both attacking enemies and reaching platforms, making it one of the more versatile abilities shown in the latest presentation.

Astro Crush returns with a new custom chip system

Capcom has confirmed the return of Astro Crush, the screen-wide attack previously seen in Mega Man 8. The weapon hits enemies across the display, providing an option for dealing with opponents spread across the screen rather than aiming at each target individually. Its return is tied to Mega Man: Dual Override’s new custom chip development system.

Defeating Astro Man R in the second stage of the exhibition area gives players access to the corresponding chip, introducing another method of developing their combat abilities. The game features more than 50 custom chips, covering offensive abilities, defence and movement. Players can equip different chips before entering a stage, allowing them to adjust their setup for individual encounters. Some chips provide continuous benefits once equipped. Others require manual activation during gameplay, giving players direct control over when to use their effects.

Mega Man and Proto Man have different combat abilities

Mega Man and Proto Man are both playable in Dual Override, but they don’t fight in quite the same way. Mega Man retains his familiar Mega Buster and can acquire special weapons from defeated bosses. His combat style centres on ranged attacks, giving players access to different weapons as they progress through the game. Proto Man takes a different approach.

Armed with the Proto Buster and Proto Shield, he has a shorter attack range but deals greater damage with his primary weapon. His shield provides defensive options and can be used offensively during encounters. Both characters have access to the new Override system, which temporarily removes their operational limits and increases their combat performance.

The effect doesn’t last indefinitely. Once Override expires, the character suffers a temporary reduction in several abilities, introducing a trade-off between short bursts of increased performance and the period immediately following activation.

Revised stage progression offers more freedom

Mega Man: Dual Override changes how players progress through its boss stages. Each main stage contains three sections, with the difficulty increasing as players move closer to the final boss encounter.

Players don’t have to complete an entire stage before moving elsewhere. They can finish an initial section, switch to another boss stage and return later with different equipment or newly acquired abilities.

Capcom has confirmed further boss encounters, including Twinkle Girl, an entertainer robot who attacks using fireworks, and Astro Man, the returning Mega Man 8 character whose attacks include lasers and falling meteorites.

Mega Man: Dual Override launches in spring 2027 for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Dedicated Mega Man and Proto Man amiibo figures are planned to accompany the release.
