Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered physical editions arrive 13 November

Crystal Dynamics has confirmed a European physical release for Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered, with Standard and Deluxe editions arriving on 13 November 2026. Both versions are heading to PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox consoles, giving players a choice between the game on its own or a more expensive package containing an art book, soundtrack CD and other extras. Pre-orders are open, with prices starting at €29.99. The physical release follows the remaster's digital debut in March, which brought the 2003 action-adventure to modern platforms with updated graphics, revised controls and previously unreleased content. There's one detail worth checking before buying the Nintendo Switch edition. It comes with a download code rather than a cartridge.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered physical editions and prices

The Standard Edition costs €29.99 and includes the remastered game. It’s the cheaper option for players interested in the main release without paying for the extra material. The Deluxe Edition costs €49.99 and includes a SteelBook case, an official soundtrack CD and an art book featuring more than 80 pages of character models, sketches and concept artwork.

There’s extra digital content, too. Buyers receive a comic book reader containing three Legacy of Kain comics, alongside a playable demonstration of Legacy of Kain: The Dark Prophecy, the cancelled follow-up to Defiance.

PLAION will distribute the physical editions across Europe, with releases planned for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X and Xbox One. The Xbox edition supports both Xbox Series X and Xbox One, offering a single purchase option for Microsoft’s two console generations. PC players aren’t getting a boxed edition as part of the announcement, and Crystal Dynamics hasn’t confirmed a separate Nintendo Switch 2 physical release.

What’s new in Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered?

Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered launched digitally on 3 March 2026, bringing the original Crystal Dynamics adventure to current platforms with updated character models, sharper textures and revised environments. It’s more than a visual update.

Players can switch between the original graphics and the remastered presentation during gameplay, making it possible to compare the two versions without restarting the campaign. The remaster introduces a modern third-person camera system, replacing the original’s fixed-camera approach for players who prefer more direct control. The original camera remains available.

Crystal Dynamics and PlayEveryWare have included a photo mode, alternate character skins and extra material from the game’s development. Previously unreleased levels and concept artwork feature among the additions, giving players access to content absent from the 2003 release. The main campaign retains its original story and voice performances, with combat, exploration and environmental puzzles forming the central gameplay experience.

Kain and Raziel return to Nosgoth

Originally released in 2003 for PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC, Legacy of Kain: Defiance was the fifth entry in Crystal Dynamics’ long-running action-adventure series. It continued the story established across Blood Omen, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2, bringing vampire Kain and his former lieutenant Raziel together as playable protagonists.

The pair have very different objectives. Kain seeks to change the course of Nosgoth’s history, and Raziel struggles with his identity and the events surrounding his transformation. Their separate storylines gradually intersect, with the campaign switching between their perspectives to explain the conflict surrounding Nosgoth and its future.

Defiance moved the series further into action-focused territory, introducing a combat system built around combinations of attacks, supernatural abilities and encounters with groups of enemies. Exploration remains a major part of the experience. Kain and Raziel use different abilities to reach new areas and solve environmental puzzles, with Raziel able to move between the material and spectral dimensions. The original release combined these mechanics with a story involving time manipulation, ancient vampires and the consequences of decisions made across the earlier games.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered physical release date

The Standard and Deluxe physical editions of Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered arrive in Europe on 13 November 2026, with pre-orders available through participating retailers. Players interested in the digital edition can purchase the remaster now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

For anyone planning to buy the physical version, the main difference comes down to the included extras. The Standard Edition contains the game, and the Deluxe Edition adds the SteelBook, soundtrack CD, art book, digital comics and The Dark Prophecy demonstration. Nintendo Switch buyers should check the packaging before placing an order, since the boxed edition includes a download code rather than a physical game cartridge.
