Ubisoft has released a six-minute gameplay trailer for Rayman Legends Retold, giving players a closer view of its reworked version of the 2013 platformer. The footage covers redesigned stages, new challenges, character interactions and multiplayer features, with the game now scheduled to launch on 3 December 2026. Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan, Rayman Legends Retold takes the original side-scrolling adventure and rebuilds its environments in 3D. There’s a new story, a sixth world to explore, extra musical stages and fresh boss encounters. Four-player local co-op returns, alongside an updated version of the competitive Kung Foot mode. The new trailer runs through the main changes, covering everything from Rayman’s movement and combat to the revised visual presentation and additional content.
A new adventure in the Glade of Dreams
Rayman Legends Retold introduces a new storyline set in the Glade of Dreams, where a mysterious villain has begun spreading corruption across its different worlds. Rayman teams up with Globox, Barbara, Grand Minimus and Murphy to confront the threat, rescue captured Teensies and restore peace.
Players will encounter a mixture of recreated stages from the original game and new areas, including a previously unseen sixth world. Ubisoft has introduced fresh enemies, boss fights and environmental challenges, giving the adventure more content beyond its graphical overhaul.
The basic gameplay remains familiar. Rayman can jump, glide and punch his way through stages, collecting Lums and searching for hidden Teensies along the way. Murphy returns with his own interactive abilities, helping players overcome obstacles and deal with enemies during selected sections.
Redesigned stages and new gameplay challenges
The most obvious change is the visual presentation. Ubisoft has recreated the environments using 3D graphics, introducing updated character animations, more detailed scenery and revised camera movements. It’s still a side-scrolling platformer, though.
The new presentation allows for changes in perspective during certain sequences, with camera movements adding depth to the action. Returning stages sit alongside new platforming sections, including dragon-riding sequences and the Cave of Trials, which introduces a separate set of challenges.
The musical stages return, too. These levels combine traditional platforming with rhythm-based challenges, requiring players to time jumps, attacks and movements to the soundtrack. Four new musical stages have been added for Retold, extending one of the original game’s more distinctive gameplay features.
The audio has received attention across the wider adventure. Fully voiced cinematic sequences accompany the revised storyline, with an expanded soundtrack featuring music from Christophe Héral and Grant Kirkhope. Returning compositions appear alongside new material written for the updated release.
Four-player co-op and Kung Foot return
Rayman Legends Retold supports local cooperative play for up to four players across the main campaign. Friends can work together to complete stages, collect Lums and rescue Teensies, with the game retaining its mixture of cooperative platforming and competitive item collecting. There’s a separate multiplayer option, too.
Kung Foot returns with revised controls, new power-ups and customisable rules. The football-inspired mini-game gives players a chance to compete directly against one another outside the main adventure. The updated mode introduces more options for setting up matches, building on the fast-paced competitive gameplay featured in Rayman Legends.
Where Rayman Legends Retold fits into the series
Rayman first appeared in 1995, when Ubisoft released the original side-scrolling platformer created by Michel Ancel. The franchise moved into 3D with Rayman 2: The Great Escape in 1999, followed by Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc in 2003.
Ubisoft returned to side-scrolling gameplay with Rayman Origins in 2011. Rayman Legends followed in 2013, introducing a broader selection of cooperative stages, musical challenges and interactive environments.
Retold revisits the 2013 release rather than continuing the series with a conventional sequel. It keeps the original platforming structure but introduces a rewritten campaign, new content and updated graphics for current hardware.
Release date, platforms and editions
Rayman Legends Retold launches on 3 December 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. PC players can purchase the game through Ubisoft Connect, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Ubisoft+ and supported cloud gaming services are included in the release plans. The game was originally scheduled for 1 October, but Ubisoft announced a two-month delay in September. Development has reached its Gold milestone, with the extra time allocated to final preparations.
The Standard Edition includes Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition, which introduces 4K visuals, new collectibles, extra rewards and gameplay improvements. The Deluxe Edition adds alternative character costumes and an in-game art gallery. A physical Launch Edition includes a printed Glade of Dreams map, lithographs and special packaging. Pre-orders come with the Hoodlum Havoc cosmetic pack, featuring alternative outfits for Rayman and Globox inspired by Rayman 3.
With its new campaign, redesigned stages and expanded multiplayer options, Rayman Legends Retold brings the 2013 platformer to current-generation platforms with a substantial selection of gameplay and presentation changes.
