Latest Mega EverDrive update refines Paprium and Super 32X compatibility

Mega EverDrive PRO and Mega EverDrive CORE owners have a new firmware release to install. Version v26.0925 arrived on 25 September 2026, bringing fixes for Super 32X compatibility, Paprium support and a graphical problem affecting the Mega CD BIOS screen on some setups. This isn't a feature-packed release. There’s no redesigned menu, new operating mode or major addition waiting after the update. Instead, the focus sits firmly on fixing parts of the existing firmware where certain combinations of Mega Drive hardware could run into trouble. The CORE gets one main correction. PRO owners get a little more.

This isn’t a feature-packed release. There’s no redesigned menu, new operating mode or major addition waiting after the update. Instead, the focus sits firmly on fixing parts of the existing firmware where certain combinations of Mega Drive hardware could run into trouble. The CORE gets one main correction. PRO owners get a little more.

Super 32X register handling gets fixed

Both Mega EverDrive models receive a correction for system register address decoding in Super 32X mode. It sounds technical, and it is. In practical terms, the firmware needs to communicate properly with the Mega Drive and attached 32X hardware when software accesses system registers. An error in address decoding can interfere with this process, so the new release changes how those register addresses are handled.

For Mega EverDrive CORE, this forms the main change in the update. A real Super 32X is still required for 32X games. The EverDrive cartridge doesn’t replace Sega’s expansion hardware or reproduce its functions internally. It provides the cartridge side of the setup, leaving the original 32X unit to handle its own hardware. The same fix appears on Mega EverDrive PRO, making it relevant to owners using either current cartridge with Sega’s 32-bit add-on.

Paprium support gets another mapper revision

Mega EverDrive PRO receives extra work aimed at Paprium. Paprium has needed dedicated mapper support on the PRO rather than relying on the cartridge handling used by standard Mega Drive releases. Support arrived earlier in 2026, followed by another change addressing reset behaviour on systems connected to a Super 32X. This new release continues the mapper work.

The change doesn’t introduce Paprium support from scratch. Instead, it adjusts an implementation already present in the firmware, correcting how the EverDrive deals with parts of the game’s unusual cartridge configuration.

Paprium differs from a typical Mega Drive release in several technical areas, so support through a flash cartridge requires more than loading a ROM and treating it like a standard game. Mapper behaviour matters here, particularly when software expects hardware characteristics outside Sega’s regular cartridge arrangements. For PRO owners interested in running Paprium through the cartridge, the update refines support already introduced earlier this year.

Mega CD BIOS graphical problem gets a fix

There’s another PRO-only change, this time involving Mega CD functionality. Some hardware configurations could display the Mega CD BIOS screen incorrectly. The new firmware addresses this graphical issue.

The problem concerns the BIOS display rather than a new Mega CD feature. Users affected by it could encounter incorrect graphics during the opening BIOS sequence, depending on their hardware configuration. The update changes the firmware handling involved in this process.

Mega EverDrive PRO includes broader functionality than CORE, including support connected with Mega CD software, which explains why this correction doesn’t appear in the CORE package. It’s a small fix on paper, but it’s one users with affected setups can spot immediately.

CORE and PRO receive different update packages

Owners need to pay attention to which Mega EverDrive model they’re updating. Mega EverDrive CORE receives the Super 32X register decoding correction. Mega EverDrive PRO gets the same 32X fix, plus the Paprium mapper changes and Mega CD BIOS graphical correction.

The cartridges use separate firmware packages, so the correct download needs to match the hardware in use. There’s little reason to expect a dramatic change after booting the system. The interface remains familiar, and the update doesn’t try to reshape how owners use the cartridge. Most of its work happens out of sight, inside hardware handling and compatibility code.

A smaller update focused on existing hardware support

Recent Mega EverDrive firmware releases have mixed new functions with fixes, but this one has a narrower job. Super 32X users get corrected register address decoding on both current models. Mega EverDrive PRO users receive revised Paprium mapper behaviour and a correction for the Mega CD BIOS display issue.

So this release is mainly about existing features working more consistently across different Mega Drive configurations. There’s no big new function to test after installation, but owners using a 32X, Paprium or Mega CD functionality have the clearest reasons to update.
