Over Jump Rally is an independently developed arcade racing game that takes the fast, accessible handling of 1990s rally titles and rebuilds the formula with modern rendering technology. Developed and published by Bonsai Rosso, the project is currently in development for PC, with its release date still to be announced. Built in Unreal Engine 5 and openly positioned as an unofficial tribute to Sega Rally Championship, it concentrates on short, highly repeatable stages, immediate car control and visually detailed off-road environments rather than the extensive management systems associated with modern rally simulations.
A modern approach to arcade rally racing
The basic direction of Over Jump Rally is deliberately straightforward. Cars are designed to be driven aggressively across dirt roads, through sweeping bends and over elevation changes without requiring players to manage the more technical aspects found in dedicated rally simulators. The emphasis is instead on learning the course, improving lap times and controlling the car as grip levels change across the stage.
Its current showcase environment is based around a forest rally stage located at the Yosemite Pioneer History Center. The course combines narrow sections, broader high-speed stretches, changing surfaces and environmental detail intended to make the route readable while maintaining the pace expected from an arcade racing game.
That distinction is important because Over Jump Rally is not presenting itself as a conventional simulation project. Although simulation appears among its genre classifications, the stated objective is to retain an arcade-style driving model. The result is a project that uses considerably more advanced technology than the racing games that influenced it while keeping the underlying structure comparatively compact.
Unreal Engine 5 handles the visual overhaul
Unreal Engine 5 forms the technical foundation of Over Jump Rally, allowing Bonsai Rosso to construct the forest environment with substantially higher geometric detail, modern lighting and dense trackside scenery. Development footage has demonstrated the use of Unreal Engine technologies including Nanite geometry and Lumen lighting, alongside the Chaos Vehicle system for the car physics.
The visual presentation combines realistic materials and lighting with the exaggerated speed and movement expected from an arcade racer. Gravel, vegetation, buildings, trackside barriers and road surfaces receive considerably more detail than would normally be associated with the simple circuit structure of a traditional arcade rally game.
Performance remains an important consideration given the rendering technology involved. The provisional PC specification currently lists Windows 10, 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12 and either a GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 580 as the minimum graphics hardware, with 9 GB of available storage. The processor specification and several recommended hardware requirements remain undecided while development continues. The current minimum target also references 60 frames per second with an upscaler enabled, indicating that image reconstruction technology is part of the performance strategy.
Driving remains at the centre of the project
Despite the graphical emphasis, car handling is one of the more significant parts of the development work. Over Jump Rally uses a third-person driving format with controller support and is being designed around rapid steering inputs, controlled slides and maintaining momentum through corners.
The structure naturally encourages repeated runs. Instead of requiring long championship sessions, the stage format allows the player to concentrate on individual attempts and progressively refine braking points, racing lines and corner exits. That makes lap-time improvement a central part of the experience without requiring a complicated progression system around it. Development material has also shown alternative camera positions, including a bonnet-style viewpoint, giving the game a more direct driving perspective alongside its external presentation.
Single-player and multiplayer features are planned
Over Jump Rally is not being developed exclusively as a solo time-attack game. Its current PC feature set includes single-player alongside online PvP, LAN competition and shared or split-screen multiplayer. Remote Play Together support is also listed, potentially giving the finished version several ways of handling local and remote races.
These features should still be considered part of an unfinished project rather than a final specification. Over Jump Rally remains in active development, and elements including hardware requirements and release timing have yet to be finalised.
An arcade racer still taking shape
Over Jump Rally occupies a relatively specific position among upcoming PC racing games. It combines Unreal Engine 5 graphics with a deliberately uncomplicated arcade rally structure, concentrating on driving, stage knowledge and repeated attempts rather than vehicle management or detailed motorsport simulation.
Bonsai Rosso has not yet announced when the finished game will be available. For now, Over Jump Rally remains a work in development, with its technical foundations, driving model and core racing format providing the clearest indication of what the final PC release is intended to deliver.
The development status, currently listed features, system requirements and Unreal Engine 5 basis were checked against current project information; the release date remains unannounced as of October 2026.
