Panzer Dragoon Zwei: Remake has picked up a sizeable update to its Steam demo, giving PC players a much better look at how the project is shaping up. This isn’t just a handful of bug fixes. The latest build changes movement, aiming, enemy behaviour, animation, visual effects, boss fights and audio. In other words, quite a lot has moved since the previous version of the demo. The full game still doesn’t have a confirmed release date, but this updated build gives players a clearer idea of what to expect from the remake on PC.
The gameplay feels different
Most of the changes focus on how the game actually plays. Player movement has been adjusted, aiming is easier to read and some level paths have been reworked. Those might sound like small details on paper, but they’re important in a rail shooter where the screen can get busy very quickly. Enemies have also had some attention.
Their movement, attack timing, accuracy and general behaviour have been tweaked, while battleships, turrets, gates and other hostile objects now behave differently during combat. Their destruction effects have also been changed. That should make battles easier to read, especially when several enemies are attacking at once.
The boss fight in the demo has received an even bigger overhaul. The arena, behaviour, animation, effects and destruction sequence have all been revised. It’s not one isolated change. The whole encounter has been reworked as a single package.
Visuals and sound have been updated too
The update also changes a lot of what you see on screen. Character models, the dragon, enemies and parts of the environment have received new or revised animation work. Projectile effects, damage effects, explosions and destructible objects have also been adjusted.
The Berserk activation effect has been reworked as well. Audio hasn’t been left behind. The latest demo adds new sounds for enemies, weapons and destructible objects, giving combat more feedback than before. Taken together, these changes make the update feel much bigger than a normal demo patch. Almost every part of a typical run has been touched in some way.
The original structure is still there
Underneath all those changes, Panzer Dragoon Zwei: Remake keeps the basic structure of the original game. Players control Jean Jacque Lundi and his dragon, Lagi, in a story set 20 years before the first Panzer Dragoon. The game sticks with its on-rails shooter setup, with Lundi using a gun while Lagi can lock on to enemies and attack them with lasers.
The remake also keeps several systems from the original. Lagi can evolve depending on how you play and perform in combat. Stages have branching routes, so different runs can take you through different parts of a level. The Berserk Attack also returns as a stronger offensive option for tougher situations.
After finishing the campaign, players can unlock Pandora’s Box. This adds extra gameplay options, modifiers and mission variants. There are also choices when it comes to music. Players can use the original soundtrack or switch to a remastered version arranged by Saori Kobayashi. Two control styles are planned too, with both classic and modern options available.
There’s still no final release date
Panzer Dragoon Zwei: Remake is being developed by MegaPixel Studio and Storm Trident, with Forever Entertainment handling publishing. For now, the Steam release is still marked as coming soon. There’s no confirmed launch date yet.
That leaves the updated demo as the best look at the PC version for the moment. With changes spread across controls, enemy behaviour, visuals, sound and boss design, it’s now a noticeably different build from the one players saw before.
