IBM unveils Power10 processor: up to 3 times more energy efficient

IBM announced the IBM Power10. It’s the successor to the Power9 and represents the next generation of the company’s processor family. IBM claims that the Power10 delivers up to three times greater efficiency than its predecessor while at the same time delivering higher workload capacity. Power10 will offer an embedded Matrix Math Accelerator, and you can expect to achieve 10 times, 15 times, and 20 times faster AI inference for FP32, BFloat16 and INT8 calculations respectively to improve performance for enterprise AI inference workloads as compared to IBM POWER9. IBM assigned Samsung to manufacture the chips using a 7nm process. POWER9 processors, launched in late 2017, used a 14nm manufacturing process.
