History: The world’s first website was published on August 6, 1991

The world’s first website was published on August 6, 1991 by British physicist Tim Berners-Lee. It may have been a simple, text-based website with information about the WWW project, but the web page was the seed preceding all websites. Today, about 1.9 billion websites are online. Tim Berners-Lee wrote the first proposal for the World Wide Web in March 1989 and his second proposal in May 1990. In collaboration with Belgian systems engineer Robert Cailliau, this proposal was formalized in November 1990. This event changed mankind forever in less then 3 decades because the average global internet user in 2022 spends 6 hours and 43 minutes online every day. That’s more than 100 days spent online throughout the year and global retail eCommerce sales are projected to amount to $5.4 trillion in 2022(!).
