April 1987: Commodore releases the Amiga 500

The Commodore Amiga 500 was officially released during april 1987 in the Netherlands and started the beginning of new era in home computing. It amazed the American public with it’s graphics and sound capabilities and all of this for a very reasonable price compared to the Commodore Amiga 1000. Compared with most Apple’s and IBM & compatibles of that time the Commodore Amiga 500 had it all. The original Amiga 500 proved to be Commodore’s best-selling Amiga model and sales went up to 6,000,000 units worldwide and is still being widely used by Amiga and retro computing lovers.
