25 Years ago, Gran Turismo changed racing games forever

When the very first installment of the Gran Turismo saga arrived in 1997 on the Playstation console, it was a real shock for gamers. Gran Turismo wasn’t the first driving simulator game, but it was the first to bring a realistic driving game experience to a mass audience on the PlayStation. It took Polys Entertainment 5 years to create the game, the development of the game started early 1992. Its revolutionary physics model made every car feel distinct and behave like you would expect them to in real life. Each car was made of 300 polygons, and while that’s a small number by today’s standards, they looked like the real thing in the 90s. All the games in the series have cumulated into sales of more than 90 million copies.
