Star Wars: Dark Forces is getting a remaster

Nightdive Studios is partnering with Lucasfilm Games to release a remastered version of “Star Wars: Dark Forces”. Given Nightdive Studios’ track record with remastering other classic games like the System Shock series and Quake II, fans of the original “Dark Forces” can likely look forward to a polished and faithful adaptation of the game. The updated graphics and modern enhancements could bring a fresh perspective to the game while retaining the essence of the original. “Star Wars: Dark Forces” was a first-person shooter video game developed and published by LucasArts. It was released in 1995 for MS-DOS and later for other platforms like Apple and PlayStation. The game is set in the Star Wars universe and follows the story of Kyle Katarn, a mercenary who becomes involved in the Rebel Alliance’s fight against the Galactic Empire. The game is notable for being one of the earliest Star Wars video games to focus on the first-person shooter genre and for introducing the character Kyle Katarn, who would go on to become a significant figure in the Star Wars Expanded Universe (now known as Star Wars Legends). The game’s storyline revolves around Kyle Katarn’s mission to stop the Empire’s dark plans involving a new superweapon called the Dark Trooper Project. “Star Wars: Dark Forces” received positive reviews for its engaging storyline, atmospheric level design, and satisfying gameplay mechanics. It was followed by several sequels, including “Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II,” which introduced lightsaber combat and expanded the game’s mechanics beyond simple shooting. The series continued with various installments, exploring different aspects of Kyle Katarn’s journey, his connection to the Force, and his role in the ongoing conflict between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire.
